Stonycreek Watershed Clean Up – Saturday, April 19, 2008.  Volunteers are needed to clean up Greenhouse Park, Carpenter’s Park, Foustwell, and the Quemahoning Dam area.  Meet at Carpenters Park at 10:00am.  Or meet at Greenhouse Park at 9:00am on the way.  Large Dumpster donated by Waste Management.

Stonycreek Whitewater Raft TripSaturday and Sunday, April 26 & 27 2008.  $40.00 per trip, $30.00 for AmeriCorps and Students.  Click here for 2007 info.

Pine Creek Trip – Little Grand Canyon of PA   May 3 and 4, 2008.  Trip Coordinator:  Greg Gdula.  Class I-II canoe camping trip.  May be a one day float trip of 11 miles.  Weather and water pending.  Great trip!!!! Fishing, bald eagles, bike path thru the canyon.  Check website and hotline for up to the minute details.

Canoe Club Paddle, Camping, Picnic and Meeting. 

May 17 to 19th weekend.  Canoe camping trip on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River stating from Juniata Crossing, Route 30 to Bruce Penrod’s place, a total of 22 miles.  We'll have the traditional BCC picnic at Penrod’s on Sunday afternoon as usual.  More details to follow.

 

West Branch of the Susquehanna River Paddle   Memorial Day Weekend.  The club will be paddling the West Branch on Memorial Day weekend.  Plans are incomplete at this time but please contact

Canoe Sojourn - Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers.  June 5-8  2008.  Includes a raft trip on the Stonycreek Canyon June 8 with a potential whitewater release from Cambria-Somerset Authority. Quemahoning Moonlight Paddle – June 20, 2008.  Details to Follow.  Meet at Que dam public use area at 6 pm.  BCC will access the fire ring on the beach and cook burgers and dogs on grill.  No fee for event.  MUST have boats registered (sticker) by state.  Everyone should bring their own food, beverage and lawn chair.  Joint cruise on the Que with all participants around 7:30 PM.  Moon rises at 9:29 that night.  Overnight camping may be an option that will be set up with Ken.

 

Quemahoning Classic Fishing Tournament

Saturday, June 28, 2008.  The event is being promoted by the Stonycreek Conemaugh Rivers Improvement Project (SCRIP) with assistance from the Greater Johnstown Watershed Association.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each fish species category (catch and release).

Launch Site: Quemahoning Public Recreation Area

Time:          7:00am to 12:pm (Check-in begins at 6am)

Cost:        $25 for SCRIP members until June 15th, 2007

                $35 for Non-members(+ 1yr membership to SCRIP) until June 18th, 2008

                $45 after June18th, 2008  $10 per youth (15yrs or younger)

Prizes:            Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category. The grand prize winner will be the fisherman that catches the most species. The species categories are: Largemouth Bass, Small mouth Bass, Trout (All species), Carp, Walleye, Pike and Muskellunge. All winners will be determined by total inches in each species.  The grand prize winner will be determined by total species caught and released, any tie-breakers decided by total inches.

Johnstown Riverfest – Summer, 2008.  Details to Follow.  10AM to 8PM at Johnstown Festival Park.  Includes an “Anything That Floats Regatta” through Johnstown and a running race / walk up the Inclined Plane trail.  CSA will be providing a minimal release from the Que.  Food, environmental exhibits, fly casting, etc.  More information:  814-532-5049 or

Loyalhanna Creek Beginner Whitewater Trip with Jeff Prycl of Rocky Mountain Kayak.  Spring 2009 meeting at the Kingston Dam along route 30 just west of Ligonier.  March 29 is a Class II canoe/kayak trip designed for instructional based paddle for 1st time boaters.  March 30 is not for very first time in a boat.  If you are a true beginner, then you must do March 29 in order to do March 30.  This is an excellent trip for those just getting involved in boating.  Jeff Prycl from TRPC leads the trip.  Bring plenty of water and pack a lunch as this is a long eight hour day on the water.  Lengthy time will be spent on first aid, safety boating, reading rivers, basic paddling skills.  Anyone needing info or equipment should contact the hotline and leave message.  The BCC will try to supply any and all equipment that a beginner may need including a boat.  Jeff will have an additional day on the Loyalhanna on Sunday March 25 as well.

 

Middle Stonycreek Beginner Trip         Spring, 2009.

Water and weather pending, we will try to organize a Class I-II trip on the Stonycreek beginning at Kantnor and finishing at the Blough Bridge on state route 403.  The Ferndale gauge needs to read 4.6 feet and be over 1000 cfs to be runnable.  This is a beautiful section of the Stonycreek that is great for beginner boaters.  Check the hotline for info to be posted on Thursday, March 22 and also check the Forum on the webpage for up to date info.  Tentatively meet at the Blough Bridge (bridge on Stony between Hooversville and Hollsopple) at 11 AM.

 

Icebreaker Paddling Trip on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River Spring, 2009 from the Richey Bridge in Tatesville to Bruce Penrod’s  place.  We are meeting at noon at Bruce Penrod’s  place (map quest 461 Penrods Beach Road, Hopewell, PA 16650) to set up a shuttle.  After the paddle we'll be warming up with some homemade soups.  Bruce Penrod 814 241 6177 for info.

 

Heatheners/Sinners Trip – Easter Sunday, 2009.

This is headed by Dave Greenwald from Pittsburgh.  For the past 15 years he has come to Johnstown to paddle the Stony on Easter Sunday.  If high water, they will paddle Shade Creek.  Meet at Carpenter’s Park at 10 AM.   This is a class III trip.

 

Red Moshannon Downriver Race – Spring, 2009.
